Eugene, OR (Sports Network) - Tony Woods led four players in double figures
with 14 points as the Oregon Ducks captured its first win of the season on
opening night with an 83-73 victory over Northern Arizona at Matthew Knight
Arena.
Damyean Dotson finished with 13 points, E.J. Singler had 12 and Dominic
Artis chipped in 10 for Oregon (1-0). Singler also led the team in rebounds
with eight.
DeWayne Russell scored 15 points off the bench for Northern Arizona (0-1).
Michael Dunn was the only starter in double figures (13) while Max Jacobsen
put in 10 as a reserve.
Oregon led 45-35 at the half thanks in large part to a 14-3 edge on points
from the free throw line. The Ducks shot 46.7 percent in the first period
which was just better than Northern Arizona's 45.2 percent.
In the second half Oregon heated up to 50 percent shooting but nine
turnovers stopped the Ducks from expanding their lead. Northern Arizona
shot 38.5 percent over the final 20 minutes.
Oregon was the more successful team on the inside with a 43-36 edge in
rebounds and a 42-24 advantage on points in the paint.
