Manhattan, KS (Sports Network) - Angel Rodriguez scored a game-high 19 points
as he helped guide the Kansas State Wildcats to a 79-55 victory over the Lamar
Cardinals as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Bramlage Coliseum.
Also scoring in double figures for the Wildcats (2-0) was Will Spradling who
dropped in 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting behind the three-point line.
The Cardinals (0-1) were led by Donley Minor with 17 points as he converted 4-
of-5 beyond the arc, followed by Rhon Mitchell and Stan Brown with 15 and 11
points, respectively.
The Wildcats opened the meeting on a 15-0 run and it wasn't until the 13:25
mark that Lamar was able to knock down a field goal. The Cardinals converted a
total of just six field goals on 21 attempts in the period, leading to a 43-15
deficit at the break.
In the second half Lamar turned it around with 57.7 percent accuracy from the
floor and a perfect 4-of-4 out on the perimeter, but KSU was simply too far
ahead as it cruised to the 24-point victory.
The defense for the Wildcats disrupted Lamar time and time again by forcing 26
turnovers.
With the victory the Wildcats now move on to the next round of the tourney and
will face winner of the matchup between Alabama-Huntsville and North Texas.
