Columbia, SC (Sports Network) - Lucas Troutman scored a game-high 17 points as
the Elon Phoenix upset the South Carolina Gamecocks at Colonial Life Arena,
65-53.
Austin Hamilton and Jack Isenbarger scored 13 apiece for Elon (4-1), which
never trailed in the game. Sebastian Koch scored nine and had a game-high five
assists.
South Carolina (3-1) struggled from the field, shooting 32.1 percent as a
team. Lakeem Jackson led the way with a double-double, putting up 14 points
and 10 rebounds while the remaining four Gamecock starters shot 6-of-23
Elon led 31-23 at halftime despite being outrebounded by seven. The Phoenix
benefited from 14 Gamecock turnovers, including at least one by every player
who played and two by every starter.
The Gamecocks fought back to within four with just over 15 minutes to play,
but
Elon used a 14-2 run to gain the momentum back and pull away.
Elon tied the all-time series, 2-2 with the win.
