Boone, NC (Sports Network) - Jerry Jones led all scorers with 22 points as
the Duquesne Dukes edged the Appalachian State Mountaineers, 73-72, in a non-
league affair at the Holmes Center.
For the Dukes (3-3), Kadeem Pantophlet added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Nathan Healy finished with 21 points for the Mountaineers (1-5), Tab Hamilton
scored 19 and pulled down seven rebounds, while Jay Canty registered a double-
double with 15 points and 10 assists.
Duquesne shot very well to start the contest, connecting on 50 percent of its
field goals, including 7-of-12 from three-point range, as the visitors went
into halftime leading comfortably, 47-33. Appalachian State shot 43.8 percent
from the floor, including 4-of-11 on three-point attempts through the first 20
minutes of play.
After the break, the Dukes cooled off and managed to hit just 31 percent from
the field, missing all but two of their 14 three-point attempts. The
Mountaineers were able to mount a comeback by shooting 57.7 percent from the
floor, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.
A 24-9 run to open the second half gave the Mountaineers the lead midway
through the period. The teams traded leads the rest of the way and after
trailing by two with just 47 seconds to play, Duquesne scored five straight
points to take the lead for good and hold on for the victory.
