Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Ben McLemore poured in a game-high 24 points
on Saturday, as No. 9 Kansas routed Colorado, 90-54, at Allen Fieldhouse.
Kevin Young tallied 16 points and eight rebounds, while Elijah Johnson and
Travis Releford scored 11 and 10, respectively, for the Jayhawks (7-1), who
have won six straight since suffering their lone loss of the season against
Michigan State on Nov. 13.
"I give my teammates a lot of credit for that," McLemore said of his
performance. "We just go out there and have fun, so once we're all having fun,
it's hard for one individual to not. I just try to keep a smile on out there."
Josh Scott led the way for Colorado (7-2) with 19 points and Askia Booker
added 15 for the Buffaloes, who have lost 19 straight meetings with Kansas.
"Kansas came out and man-handled us from start to finish, and there wasn't a
lot we could do about it," Colorado coach Tad Boyle admitted. "Obviously I'm
disappointed in our performance but I also realized we played a heck of a team
in a heck of an environment."
Kansas opened the contest on a 10-1 run behind 3-pointers from McLemore and
Johnson and led 18-3 just over five minutes in after a McLemore layup.
The Jayhawks used a 9-0 surge later in the first to build a 20-point edge with
just over four minutes left in the half before a pair of McLemore free throws
pressed the margin to 43-22 heading into the locker room.
A 9-0 start to the second half pushed the Jayhawks' lead to 30 less than three
minutes in and the home team cruised the rest of the way en route to the wire-
to-wire victory.
