Des Moines, IA (Sports Network) - Melvin Ejim tallied 21 points, 11 rebounds,
four assists, and four steals to lead the Iowa State Cyclones to an 86-77
victory over the Drake Bulldogs in a game that was part of the inaugural Hy-
Vee Big Four Classic at Wells Fargo Arena.
Will Clyburn also recorded a double-double for Iowa State (8-3) with 17 points
and 10 boards. Chris Babb and Georges Niang netted 13 points each to help the
Cyclones earn their second consecutive decision.
Seth VanDeest paced Drake (4-5) with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the
field. Chris Hines and Ben Simons contributed 13 points each.
The Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run to build an early 13-6 advantage, but ISU
responded with an 8-0 run to jump in front. The Cyclones took a 37-33 lead
into halftime after they shot 40.6 percent from the field and converted 9-
of-14 attempts at the charity stripe. Drake made a mere 33.3 percent of its
field goal attempts before halftime.
Drake heated up after the intermission to knock down 57.7 percent of its field
goal tries, but ISU stayed in front by draining 21-of-27 attempts at the
charity stripe in the final 20 minutes.
The Cyclones enjoyed a 45-30 advantage in the rebounding battle to overcome
their 17 turnovers.
