Harrisonburg, VA (Sports Network) - Rayshawn Goins registered a double-double
with 23 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as he helped guide the James
Madison Dukes to an 85-73 win over the Spartans of UNC Greensboro in non-
conference action at the Convocation Center.
Also filling his stat line for the Dukes (4-6), as the team won for the third
time in the last four outings, was Devon Moore with 22 points, nine rebounds,
seven assists and three steals. Andrey Semenov and Ron Curry chipped in with
14 and 13 points, respectively, the latter accounting for six dishes as well.
The Spartans (2-6) were paced by Trevis Simpson who tallied 24 points, while
Nicholas Paulos turned his 5-of-6 shooting behind the three-point line into 15
points off the bench for a squad that has now bowed in five of the last six
contests.
JMU scored the first points of the day and never looked back, converting an
impressive 56.3 percent from the floor in the first half, including 6-of-12
behind the three-point line, en route to a 49-29 advantage at the break. UNCG
connected on only 25.8 percent from the floor and 2-of-9 on the perimeter over
the first 20 minutes of action.
The Spartans closed the gap by opening the second half on a 15-3 run, but
again the Dukes were rather precise with their field goal attempts, connecting
on 57.1 percent, in order to capture the 12-point win.
Despite allowing 18 offensive rebounds to the Spartans, it was James Madison
which produced a 40-24 scoring advantage in the paint.
