Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Stephan Hicks and Landon Drew each
scored 19 points as Cal State Northridge Matadors rallied for a 76-71 win over
the Utah Utes in a non-conference tilt at the Huntsman Center.
Hicks also collected nine rebounds and Josh Greene added 13 points for Cal
State Northridge (9-3) which won for the third time in four games.
Jordan Loveridge scored a game-high 24 points and came a rebound shy of a
double-double for Utah (7-4). Jarred DuBois added 17 points and handed out
seven assists while Jason Washburn tacked on 13 points off the bench.
At the end of the first half it looked like Utah would cruise to victory as
the Utes led 48-27 at intermission. Utah shot at a 60.0 percent clip in the
first half and hit 6-of-11 shots from beyond the arc. Cal State Northridge
managed to shoot just 39.3 percent.
Utah cooled to 22.2 percent shooting in the second half while the Matadors
improved and connected on 65.5 percent of their field goal attempts. The key
stretch of the contest came when the Matadors used a 22-2 run to take a 63-59
lead with 4:29 remaining. Utah would not regain the lead the rest of the way.
The Matadors outscored the Utes by a 19-4 margin on points off turnovers.
Utah lost despite a 38-27 advantage on the boards.
