Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) - Amadou Sidibe scored 10 points as the Fairfield
Stags escaped with a 55-54 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs at the Constant
Convocation Center.
Sidibe scored was the only player in double figures for Fairfield (9-5).
Marcus Gilbert scored eight points and brought in 10 rebounds for the Stags
who have won five straight.
DeShawn Painter had a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds and Richard
Ross added 15 points for Old Dominion (2-11) which had ended a nine-game
losing streak in its last game.
Fairfield led 27-26 at the end of first half after hitting on 12-of-26 shots
from the field. Old Dominion connected on 11-of-21 first half field goal
attempts.
The Monarchs had a 50-40 lead with 8:23 remaining but the Stags went on a 15-2
run over the next seven minutes to earn a 55-52 lead. Fairfield gave the
Monarchs plenty of opportunity in the final minutes by missing a pair of shots
and two free throws. Old Dominion couldn't take advantage as the Monarchs
missed on eight of their final nine field goal attempts.
The game featured 12 ties and eight lead changes.
