Jersey City, NJ (Sports Network) - Shane Richards scored a game-high 16 points
as the Manhattan Jaspers held on for a 55-53 win over the Saint Peter's
Peacocks in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at the Yanitelli Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Jaspers (4-9, 2-1 MAAC) were Rhamel
Brown and Mohamed Koita with 11 and 10 points, respectively, as they snapped a
four-game slide.
The Peacocks (6-7, 1-2) were paced by Desi Washington with 15 points, but he
shot just 5-of-17 from the floor as the team bowed for the second time in the
last three games.
A close game throughout the first half, neither team was able to build a lead
greater than five points and with both shooting about 40 percent from the
floor, it only made sense that they remained tied at the break, 27-27.
In the second half Saint Peter's began with a 6-0 run, but the lead didn't
last for long and eventually it was Manhattan that surged ahead by six at the
3:48 mark of the period, holding on for the narrow win after being held
scoreless the rest of the way.
The Jaspers survived 17 turnovers on the night while the Peacocks hurt
themselves with a disappointing 9-of-20 showing at the free-throw line.
