Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Keith Clanton recorded a double-double to lead
the UCF Knights as they cruised by the UAB Blazers, 64-48, in Conference USA
opener for both schools at UCF Arena.
Clanton scored 12 points and recorded 13 boards for UCF (11-4, 1-0 C-USA).
Calvin Newell scored a team-high 14 points and Tristan Spurlock chipped in 12
points as the Knights picked up their fifth win in their last six games.
For the Blazers, (8-8, 0-1), Rod Rucker recorded a double-double with game-
highs of 17 points and 14 rebounds. Terrence Jones added 10 points as UAB lost
for the second time in its last three games.
UAB struggled offensively in the first half, making only 11-of-40 from the
floor including a fruitless 0-of-10 mark from long range. UCF made 11-of-27 of
its attempts from the field en route to a 31-23 halftime advantage.
The Blazers shot an even colder 24.3 percent from the floor after the break
and once against failed to drain an attempt from beyond the arc despite 13
attempts. UCF converted all seven of its foul shots in the second half to
protect its advantage on the scoreboard.
The Knights managed to come out on top even though they were guilt of 21
turnovers and outscored in the paint, 36-24. UAB saw its offense stall as it
missed all 23 of its attempts from distance.
The victory snapped the Blazers' three-game losing streak versus UCF.
