Clarksville, TN (Sports Network) - Will Triggs scored 20 points for the Austin
Peay Governors as they earned an 84-81 overtime Ohio Valley Conference win
over the Morehead State Eagles at the Dunn Center.
Triggs went 7-of-9 from the field for the Governors (5-12, 1-2 OVC), who
happily saw their eight-game losing streak reach its conclusion. Travis Betran
also scored 20 points while knocking down three 3-pointers but converted only
5-of-18 from the floor. Anthony Campbell added 14 points and seven rebounds
while Thomas Greer managed 11 points off the bench.
Bakari Turner scored 19 points and led four teammates in double figures as the
Eagles (8-9, 2-1) saw their three-game winning streak come to a close. Drew
Kelly (16 points, five rebounds), Milton Chavis (15 points, five rebounds),
and Maurice Lewis-Briggs (10 points, eight rebounds) all scored in double
figures while Chad Posthumus recorded a double-double with 10 points and the
same number of rebounds.
Austin Peay led 39-20 at halftime after holding the Eagles to 27.6 percent
shooting in the first half while converting 45.2 percent of its own attempts
from the floor.
In the second half, Morehead State outscored the Governors 52-33 and a layup
by Kelly with two seconds left tied the game 77-77 to send it to overtime.
Throughout overtime, Austin Peay and Morehead State traded baskets until
Betran hit a contested 3-pointer as time expired to give the Governors the
decision.
Despite the loss, Morehead State held a 45-35 edge in the rebounding battle
and outscored the Governors, 44-27, in points in the paint. Austin Peay
survived by draining 21-of-29 at the charity stripe and 11-of-21 from beyond
the arc.
