Long Beach, CA (Sports Network) - Deng Deng came off the bench to score 18
points as the Long Beach State 49ers toppled the Cal State-Northridge
Matadors, 78-69, in Big West Conference action at Walter Pyramid.
Deng converted 5-of-12 from 3-point range for Long Beach State (7-8, 3-1 Big
West), which has won three of four. Mike Caffey scored 14 points, Keala King
tallied 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, and James Ennis added 10
points for the home team.
For Northridge (9-7, 0-4), Stephan Hicks tied a career-high with 26 points and
added eight rebounds. Stephen Maxwell chipped in a double-double with 10
points and 13 boards for the Matadors, who have lost four in a row since
league play began.
Long Beach State shot 50 percent from the field in the first half as it got
out to a 39-38 advantage at intermission. Northridge shot 41.2 percent in the
frame, and it kept the game close by shooting 8-of-12 from the foul line.
The Matadors opened the second half up on a 17-9 run to take a 55-48 lead with
11:16 to play, but the 49ers answered with a 24-4 spurt themselves to pull
away.
Long Beach State held on to win despite getting outrebounded, 38-32.
