Laramie, WY (Sports Network) - Jeff Elorriaga drilled a 3-pointer at the
buzzer to lift the Boise State Broncos to a thrilling 63-61 win over the
Wyoming Cowboys in the Mountain West Conference opener for both teams at Arena
Auditorium.
Elorriaga finished by shooting 6-of-10 from 3-point range on his way to 18
points for Boise State (13-2, 1-0 MWC), which has won seven straight games.
Anthony Drmic also netted 18 points, while Igor Hadziomerovic added 11 points
for the visitors.
For Wyoming (13-1, 0-1), Derrious Gilmore scored 17 points, Riley Grabau had
10 points, and Josh Adams and Leonard Washington chipped in 12 points apiece.
The loss ends the Cowboys' perfect season, leaving only Arizona, Michigan, and
Duke unbeaten in Division I.
The Broncos shot 12-of-29 from the field in the first half, including 6-of-10
from beyond the arc, as they took a 31-26 lead into intermission. The Cowboys
kept the game close by also draining six 3-pointers.
Wyoming opened the second half on a 19-4 run to take a 45-35 lead with 11:29
left to play, but Boise State answered with a 22-5 spurt of its own to take a
57-50 lead with under three minutes remaining in the game. The Cowboys would
not go away quietly however, and a pair of Grabau free throws with 44 seconds
left capped a 9-0 surge and give them a 59-57 lead. The Broncos took a one-
point lead on an Elorriaga 3-pointer, but the Cowboys retook the advantage
after a 2-of-2 trip to the line for Adams. Boise State was left with one last
possession, and Elorriaga came up clutch again by drilling the game-winning
trey.
Boise State outscored Wyoming in the paint, 24-14.
