Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Devon Saddler drained a 3-pointer just before
time expired, lifting the Delaware Blue Hens to a dramatic 86-83 victory over
the Georgia State Panthers in Colonial Athletic Association play from GSU
Sports Arena.
Saddler, the CAA's leading scorer, finished with a game-high 29 points. Jarvis
Threatt added 18 points for the Blue Hens (8-8, 3-0 CAA), who claimed their
10th consecutive regular-season conference victory. Josh Brinkley and Jamelle
Hagins scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Manny Atkins led the way with 20 points for the Panthers (6-11, 1-3), who have
now lost seven of their last eight games. Devonta White chipped in with 18
points, R.J. Hunter scored 15, and Rashaad Richardson finished with 13 in the
loss.
GSU scored the game's first seven points, but Delaware weathered the early
storm and eventually took a 27-23 lead with six minutes to play in the opening
frame. The Panthers answered right back with a 13-2 run, and they went into
the break leading 42-37.
The Blue Hens regained the lead at the 15:43 mark of the second stanza and
never trailed again the rest of the way, although things certainly got
interesting down the stretch. GSU trailed 81-70 with 1:41 to play before
rallying all the way back to tie the score at 83-83 on a pair of free throws
by Ryann Green with six seconds on the clock. However, that proved ample time
for Saddler to take the ball across half court and bury the game-winner just
before the final buzzer sounded.
Delaware shot 50 percent or better from the floor in each half and also had 26
points from the foul line to earn the road win.
