Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - Julius Brown scored 21 points and hit a pair of
crucial free throws to earn the Toledo Rockets a 76-72 overtime victory over
the Central Michigan Chippewas in a Mid-American Conference thriller at Savage
Arena.
Brown also contributed nine assists and seven rebounds for Toledo (6-7, 2-0
MAC) which has won four of its last five. Rian Pearson dropped in 20 points
and Dominique Buckley added 13 points.
Kyle Randall had a game-high 24 points as the only player in double figures
for Central Michigan (8-7, 1-1) which had won two of its previous three.
Central Michigan led 29-26 at halftime despite shooting just 37.5 percent from
the field by outscoring the Rockets from beyond the arc (15-12) and the
free-throw line (6-0).
Although the Chippewas shot 54.2 percent in the second half they found
themselves trailing 50-47 with a little less than seven minutes to play. A
3-pointer from Randall evened the game up at 50-50 in one of five ties in the
last six minutes including the 60-60 stalemate at the end of regulation.
The Rockets hit 3-of-5 shots from the field and 9-of-10 from the free-throw
line in the extra session to pull out the win. Brown hit all six of his
attempts from the charity stripe in overtime including the pair that put the
game out of reach with a second remaining.
