Cheney, WA (Sports Network) - Konner Veteto and Mikh McKinney each scored 12
points as the Sacramento State Hornets overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to
defeat the Eastern Washington Eagles, 60-53, in Big Sky Conference action at
Reese Court.
Joe Eberhard added 11 points for Sacramento State (8-6, 3-3 Big Sky), which
has won two of three. Dylan Garrity tallied 10 points and six assists, while
John Dickson put up eight points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks.
For EWU (4-12, 2-4), Kevin Winford recorded 12 points and six assists, while
Venky Jois and Martin Seiferth chipped in 10 points apiece. Jois also logged
seven rebounds, six blocks, and two steals for the Eagles, who have lost seven
of their past nine games.
EWU outshot Sacramento State from the field in the first half, 52 percent to
39.3 percent, as it went into intermission with a 33-23 advantage.
The Hornets opened up the second half red-hot, ripping off a 21-4 run to take
a 44-37 lead with 11:21 to play. The Eagles battled back to retake the lead at
the 2:23 mark, 53-52, but those were their last points as Sacramento State
sealed the win with an 8-0 run down the stretch.
Sacramento State won the rebounding battle, 36-27, and outscored the Eagles
38-20 in the paint.
