Newark, DE (Sports Network) - Joel Smith scored 18 points to pace the
Northeastern Huskies as they defeated the Delaware Blue Hens, 74-70, in a CAA
tilt at Bob Carpenter Arena.
Quincy Ford went for 17 points while Jonathan Lee added 14 points and seven
assists for Northeastern (10-7, 6-0 CAA) which hasn't lost a game in the new
year. Reggie Spencer contributed 10 points and eight boards.
Jarvis Threatt shot 9-of-11 from the floor en route to 21 points and seven
assists for Delaware (8-10, 3-2) which has dropped consecutive road games by
a combined seven points. Kyle Anderson added 19 points and Jamelle Hagins
registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. Leading scorer Devon
Saddler scored 10 points.
Both teams came out firing as the Huskies made 7-of-9 from 3-point range and
shot 60.7 percent overall while the Blue Hens hit at a 61.9 percent clip in
the opening half. Northeastern led 45-33 at halftime.
Northeastern led by as many as 17 points early in the second half before
Delaware fought back and made things interesting, cutting the Huskies
advantage to 56-50 on a Hagins layup with 6:47 left. Northeastern withstood
the Delaware run and survived with an impressive road victory.
Northeastern scored the only four fast break points of the contest and held
the Delaware bench scoreless.
