Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - Darien Brothers scored a career-high 39 points
as the Richmond Spiders dismissed the Charlotte 49ers, 81-61, in an Atlantic
10 Conference clash at the Robins Center.
Brothers shot 8-of-11 from 3-point range and 11-of-12 from the foul line as he
surpassed his previous high of 38 points set last season. Deion Taylor added
13 points and Kendall Anthony chipped in 12 for Richmond (12-7, 2-2 A-10),
which had lost its previous two games.
Pierria Henry tallied 16 points and six rebounds as Charlotte (15-3, 3-1)
snapped a four-game win streak. DeMario Mayfield and Chris Braswell put up 11
and 10 points, respectively.
Richmond shot 44.8 percent from the floor and drained six 3-pointers in the
first half as it went into intermission with a 38-28 lead. Charlotte shot just
1-of-4 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes.
The 49ers cut their deficit to five early in the second half, but the Spiders
answered with an 11-0 run and cruised from there.
Richmond was able to turn 17 Charlotte turnovers into 18 points.
