Cedar City, UT (Sports Network) - Jackson Stevenett went 9-of-13 from the
floor en route to 21 points to lift the Southern Utah Thunderbirds to a 76-63
win over the Portland State Vikings in a Big Sky matchup at Centrum Arena.
Jayson Cheesman registered a double-double for Southern Utah (6-12, 4-5 Big
Sky) with 11 points and 11 boards while Damon Heuir scored 19 points to go
along with a team-high six assists.
Aaron Moore led PSU (5-11, 3-6) with 19 points and nine boards while Lateef
McMullan went for 14 points and six helpers.
SUU jumped out to a 12-2 lead early on and held a 36-27 halftime advantage
after shooting 42.9 percent from the floor. Each team made 2-of-5 from behind
the arc in the opening period.
The Thunderbirds hit 60 percent of their shots in the second half used an 8-0
run midway through the period to pull away from the Vikings.
Southern Utah controlled the paint, doubling up PSU by outscoring them, 36-18,
down low and also, 20-10, on second chance points.
