Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Junior Cadougan led four Golden Eagles in
double-figures with 15 points as the Marquette Golden Eagles defeated the
Providence Friars, 81-71, in Big East Conference action at the BMO Harris
Bradley Center.
Cadougan also tallied three rebounds and three assists for the Golden Eagles
(14-4, 5-1 Big East). Vander Blue, Trent Lockett, and Davante Gardner
all scored 13 points as Marquette won for the seventh time in eight games.
For the Friars (10-10, 2-6), Bryce Cotton scored a game-high 19 points. Sidiki
Johnson added 14 points and six boards. LaDontae Henton and Kris Dunn chipped
in 12 and 10 points, respectively. Vincent Council finished with nine points
and eight assists as Providence lost a second consecutive game in a row.
Marquette started out the game on a 19-8 run and converted 10-of-12 at the
free throw line before the intermission en route to a 40-32 halftime lead.
The Golden Eagles made 57.7 percent from the floor including 2-of-5 from
beyond the arc, while limiting the visitors to 11-of-24 (.458) from the floor
in the second stanza to coast to the 10-point decision.
Providence was dominated in points in the paint, 44-24, and was outrebounded,
35-27, on the day.
