Youngstown, OH (Sports Network) - Kamren Belin poured in a game-high 24 points
to lift the Youngstown State Penguins to a 73-59 decision over the Cleveland
State Vikings in Horizon League action at the Beeghly Center.
Kendrick Perry converted 8-of-8 at the charity stripe on his way to 17 points
for YSU (12-8, 4-3 HL) as it collected its third consecutive victory. Damian
Eargle added 14 points and four blocks and D.J. Cole provided a spark off the
bench with nine points and nine rebounds.
Bryn Forbes paced Cleveland State (10-12, 2-6) with 19 points and seven
rebounds. Charlie Lee scored 12 points and Tim Kamczyc posted 10 points as the
Vikings suffered their fourth loss in a row.
The Penguins came out of the game hot to knock down 48.3 percent of their
field goal attempts including 6-of-14 from 3-point range in the opening 20
minutes. Cleveland State knocked down only 4-of-11 from beyond the arc which
led to a 42-27 halftime deficit for the visitors.
The Vikings played much better after the break and won the second half, 32-31,
but YSU converted 13-of-16 at the free throw line over the final 20 minutes to
deny Cleveland State a chance of coming back.
Although the Vikings held a slight, 38-35, edge in the rebounding battle, they
were unable to overcome their 18 turnovers which YSU turned into 16 points.
