Greenville, NC (Sports Network) - McKenzie Moore drilled the game-winning 3-
pointer at the buzzer to lift the Texas-El Paso Miners to a thrilling 68-67
win over the East Carolina Pirates in a Conference USA showdown at Minges
John Bohannon paced all scorers with 23 points for UTEP (11-7, 4-1 C-USA),
while Moore added 17 points on 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Julian Washburn had
12 points and Jacques Streeter dished out seven assists for the Miners, who
have won five of their last six games. Bohannon and Moore were also active on
the glass, grabbing nine and eight rebounds, respectively.
For ECU (12-7, 3-3), Miguel Paul tallied 20 points and four steals, Ty
Armstrong scored 13 points, and Maurice Kemp finished with 10 points, albeit
on just 3-of-13 from the field.
ECU led by as many as nine points in the first half, but it went into
intermission with just a two-point lead, 30-28. Neither team shot greater than
39 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
The Pirates led for virtually the entire second half, but UTEP kept the game
close and eventually tied it up at 65-65 with 19 second left on a Moore
jumper. ECU responded on its final possession, as Paul put in the go-ahead
layup with four seconds remaining, but enough time was left for Moore to knock
down another clutch jumper as the Miners pulled out the road win.
UTEP held a 41-32 advantage on the boards and outscored ECU in second chance
