Santa Barbara, CA (Sports Network) - Christian Standhardinger recorded a
double-double with 31 points and 16 rebounds, both career-highs, as the Hawaii
Rainbow Warriors defeated the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, 78-73, in a Big
West Conference matchup at the Thunderdome.
Standhardinger shot 10-of-15 from the field and 10 of his boards came on the
offensive glass. He also had two blocks on the defensive end for Hawaii (11-9,
5-4 Big West), which snapped out of a two-game losing slump. Vander Joaquim
also managed a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Hauns
Brereton added 16 points and seven rebounds. Jace Tavita went scoreless but
dished out eight assists.
Taran Brown scored 15 points, albeit on just 7-of-23 from the floor, with six
rebounds for UCSB (7-12, 3-5), which lost its second game in a row. Kyle
Boswell scored 12, while T.J. Taylor added 11. Nate Garth scored eight points
with eight assists off the bench.
Although it shot less than 40 percent from the field in the first half, Hawaii
led 36-34 going into the break after earning a 22-12 rebounding edge.
In the second half, the Rainbow Warriors improved to 56 percent from the
field, outscoring the Gauchos 42-39 to hold on for the road win.
Hawaii outrebounded UCSB, 45-30, and scored 20 second chance points.
