Cheney, WA (Sports Network) - Collin Chiverton scored a game-high 20 points as
he helped lift the Eastern Washington Eagles to a surprising 72-68 win over
the Montana State Bobcats in Big Sky Conference action at Reese Court.
Also scoring in double figures for the Eagles (6-15, 4-7 Big Sky) were Parker
Kelly and Kevin Winford with 15 and 13 points, respectively, while Venky Jois
logged 14 rebounds, eight points, seven assists and three blocked shots to
fill his stat line in the team's second consecutive win.
The Bobcats (9-10, 6-5) were led by Flavien Davis who dropped in 12 points,
while Paul Egwuonwu and Marcus Colbert both delivered 10 points as the team
had a three-game win streak snapped.
EWU shot an impressive 51.7 percent from the field through the first 20
minutes of action, leading to a 41-36 advantage at the break.
In the second half the Eagles dipped to a mere 26.9 percent from the floor,
but managed to hold on by converting 14-of-17 at the free-throw line.
MSU won the rebounding battle, 45-41, clearing 16 boards at the offensive end
of the floor, but still the visitors shot only 30.3 percent from the field on
the night.
