Rosemont, IL (Sports Network) - Ryan Arcidiacono paced six teammates in
double figures with 23 points as the Villanova Wildcats used a second-half
surge to blow past the DePaul Blue Demons, 94-71, in a Big East Conference
showdown at Allstate Arena.
Arcidiacono shot 5-of-10 from 3-point range for Villanova (14-9, 5-5 Big
East), while Darrun Hilliard netted 17 points. James Bell added 16 points,
Mouphtaou Yarou and JayVaughn Pinkston netted 11 points apiece, and Tony
Chennault chipped in 10 points for the Wildcats, who snapped a two-game losing
skid.
For DePaul (10-12, 1-8), Cleveland Melvin shot 9-of-13 from the field for 19
points, while Jamee Crockett scored 16 points. Worrel Clahar (12 points) and
Brandon Young (11 points) each dished out five assists for the Blue Demons,
who have lost seven straight.
The teams played tight in the first half and went into intermission tied,
40-40. Villanova shot 48 percent from the field and drained 12-of-14 from the
foul line, while DePaul made just shy of 47 percent of its shots, which
included a 7-of-14 showing from beyond the arc.
The Wildcats were red-hot after halftime, making 22-of-32 from the floor
(.688) to pull away.
Villanova was able to convert 16 DePaul turnovers into 22 points. It also
outscored the Blue Demons in the paint by a dominating 42-18 margin.
