Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Baru Adjehi put together a double-double,
of 15 points and 10 rebounds, and was one of five Cougar players to score in
double-figures as the College of Charleston defeated the Samford Bulldogs,
69-65, in a Southern Conference matchup at the Pete Hanna Center.
Adheji was 6-of-8 from the field for Charleston (17-7, 9-3 SoCon), which
earned its fifth win a row..Anthony Thomas scored 12 points, Anthony Stitt
added 11, and Willis Hall and Andrew Lawrence managed 10 each while Thomas and
Hall pulled down seven rebounds each.
Raijon Kelly scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and dished
out eight assists for the Bulldogs (7-16, 5-5), who have lost four in a row.
Clide Geffrard Jr. and Tyler Hood scored 13 points each while Tim Williams
added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Samford led 31-26 at the intermission after shooting 63.2 percent from the
field in the first half. Charleston went 0-of-9 from 3-point range.
The Cougars outscored the Bulldogs 43-34 in the second half, shooting 56.0
percent from the field and going 13-of-16 from the free-throw line. Charleston
took the lead with 9:36 remaining off a Nori Johnson layup and never looked
back. After leading by as much as 12 with a minute to go, the Cougars were
able to hold off Samford for the win.
Although the Bulldogs shot 54.3 percent from the field and went 8-of-15 from
3-point range, the Cougars earned a 34-20 rebounding edge which yielded 12
more field goal attempts.
