Denton, TX (Sports Network) - Roger Franklin made all 11 of his free-throw
attempts en route to 21 points to lead the North Texas Mean Green to a 77-67
decision over the FIU Panthers in a Sun Belt Conference battle at The Super
Pit.
Alzee Williams and Jordan Williams added 15 points each for UNT (9-17, 4-11
Sun Belt), while Tony Mitchell grabbed six boards. The win ended the Mean
Green's five-game losing slide.
Tymell Murphy tallied a game-high total of 23 points for FIU (13-11, 8-7),
which also received 15 points and five steals from Detric Hill.
The Mean Green opened up the game with 15 makes on their first 19 field goal
tries and conversions on all nine of their free-throw attempts to take a 41-35
lead into halftime. FIU trailed by just six points at the break despite
hitting on only 37 percent of its shots from the floor.
UNT went 9-of-13 from the field and 18-of-23 at the charity stripe after the
intermission to extend its lead while the Panthers hit an even 50 percent of
their field goal attempts in the second stanza.
The Mean Green held a dominant, 28-14 edge in the rebounding battle to
overcome their 21 turnovers.
