College Park, MD (Sports Network) - Joe Harris scored a game-high 22 points,
leading four starters in double figures, as the Virginia Cavaliers captured an
80-69 win over the Maryland Terrapins in ACC action at the Comcast Center.
Justin Anderson accounted for 17 points and nine rebounds for the Cavaliers
(17-6, 7-3 ACC), followed by Akil Mitchell and Paul Jesperson with 13 and 12
points, respectively, as the team won for the sixth time in the last seven
outings. Jontel Evans logged eight assists, to go along with five points and
five rebounds for the visitors.
Dez Wells was responsible for a team-best 13 points for the Terps (17-7, 5-6),
while Seth Allen chipped in 11 points, five assists and five steals in a
reserve role as the team had a two-game win streak snapped.
Maryland led by as many as three points early in the first half, but the team
shot just 35.5 percent from the floor and 1-of-7 beyond the arc in the frame,
en route to a 35-29 deficit at the break.
The Cavs, who connected on 52.2 percent from the field through the first 20
minutes, knocked down 56.0 percent in the second half, 6-of-8 beyond the arc,
as they recorded the double-digit win.
Virginia finished the day converting an impressive 11-of-19 shots from 3-point
range in order to help overcome 16 turnovers.
