Davis, CA (Sports Network) - Corey Hawkins erupted for a game-high 31 points,
shooting 6-of-8 behind the 3-point line, as the UC Davis Aggies defeated the
Cal State Northridge Matadors, 73-61, in a Big West Conference matchup at the
Pavilion.
Also scoring in double figures for the Aggies (11-13, 7-6 Big West) were J.T.
Adenrele and Ryan Sypkens with 13 and 11 points, respectively, while Ryan
Howley accounted for a game-high 12 rebounds as the team won for the third
time in four outings.
The Matadors (13-14, 4-11) were led by Stephen Hicks with his 17 points, while
Josh Greene logged 12 points and handed out eight assists as the team suffered
a third straight setback.
CSUN led by three points in the first half, but the team ended up shooting
just 30.8 percent from the floor in the period, compared to 65.2 percent for
the Aggies who took a 39-26 advantage into the break.
Davis went from attempting and making just a pair of free throws in the first
half to converting 10-of-13 at the stripe following intermission in order to
pull out the win.
The Aggies survived despite turning the ball over 20 times.
