Lawrenceville, NJ (Sports Network) - Daniel Stewart tallied 14 points and 10
rebounds as the Rider Broncs overcame a double-digit second-half deficit to
take down the Marist Red Foxes, 67-63, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
tilt at Alumni Gymnasium.
It was Stewart's fifth double-double of the season for Rider (15-13, 10-6
MAAC), which has won two straight and four of five. Jonathon Thompson and
Anthony Myles netted 13 points apiece for the home team.
Chavaughn Lewis led all scorers with 18 points for Marist (7-20, 4-12),
shooting 7-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-4 from 3-point range. Adam Kemp
logged 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Jay Bowie scored 10 points for the Red
Foxes, who had won back-to-back games coming into this bout.
Rider outshot Marist from the field in the first half, 50 percent to 44.4
percent, but the Red Foxes shot 6-of-11 from beyond the arc in the opening 20
minutes to take a 33-30 advantage into intermission.
Marist scored the first eight points of the second half to extend its lead to
41-30, but from there Rider began its comeback. The Broncs ripped off a 24-11
run to take a 54-52 lead with 6:38 left on a Myles jumper. The Red Foxes
regained the advantage, 59-58, on a T.J. Curry 3-pointer with under four
minutes to play, but Rider took the lead for good following a Stewart layup on
its next possession.
Rider shot 52.9 percent from the field on the afternoon, including 8-of-16
from 3-point range.
