Long Beach, CA (Sports Network) - Antonio Bostic paced four teammates in
double figures with 21 points as the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks outlasted
the Long Beach State 49ers, 68-60, as part of the annual BracketBuster event
at Walter Pyramid.
Taylor Smith and Hal Bateman each scored 15 points for SFA (23-3), with Smith
also grabbing eight rebounds and Bateman adding six assists and four steals.
Desmond Haymon chipped in 12 points for the Lumberjacks, who have won seven of
their last eight contests.
For LBSU (17-10), Mike Caffey shot 10-of-20 from the field for 24 points,
while James Ennis tallied a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The
setback for the 49ers snapped a four-game winning streak.
SFA led by as many as nine in the first half before LBSU climbed back to take
a 30-28 lead on a pair of Keala King free throws with 24 seconds left in the
frame. The Lumberjacks closed out the period on a Bostic 3-pointer in the
waning seconds to take a 31-30 lead into intermission.
The Lumberjacks shot a lofty 72.2 percent from the field in the second half,
while holding LBSU to only 40 percent shooting, as they pulled away.
SFA nearly cost itself with an awful showing from the foul line (11-of-26).
