Irving, TX (Sports Network) - The Big 12 Conference admitted on Tuesday that
errors were made by officials during Monday night's Kansas versus Iowa State
men's college basketball game.
As Iowa State held a two-point edge over Kansas in the closing seconds, it
appeared that the officials missed a potential charging violation, then called
a foul on the Cyclones' Georges Niang as he and the Jayhawks' Elijah Johnson
battled for the ball on the baseline.
Johnson then connected on two game-tying free throws with 4.9 seconds
remaining to force overtime. Eventually, Kansas persevered for a 108-96
triumph.
The conference announced in a statement, "The Big 12 Conference acknowledges
that officiating errors were made at the end of regulation during last night's
Kansas at Iowa State men's basketball game. The plays have been reviewed and
appropriate measures will be taken by the Coordinator of Men's Basketball
Officials to adjust the number of future assignments for the two officials
involved in conjunction with Conference policies."
