Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - D.J. Cooper registered his 23rd career
double-double with 21 points and 10 assists to lift the second-seeded Ohio
Bobcats to the finals of the MAC Tournament with a 74-63 win over the Western
Michigan Broncos at Quicken Loans Arena.
Walter Offutt also had a double-double, scoring 14 points to go along with 11
rebounds for Ohio (24-8). Reggie Keely contributed 12 points.
Nate Hutcheson and Darius Paul netted 16 points apiece for Western Michigan
(20-12) while Brandon Pokley and David Brown each scored 10 points.
Ohio broke the game open after an early 8-8 tie and led 41-24 at halftime. The
Bobcats made 7-of-9 from behind the arc and shot 63.6 percent from the
floor.
Western Michigan went on a run midway through the second half to cut Ohio's
lead to 48-46 but the Bobcats responded with consecutive triples by Cooper and
Offutt. The Broncos made 4-of-6 from behind the arc in the period despite the
loss.
Ohio registered 20 assists while Western Michigan had just nine. The Bobcats
will face Akron in the MAC finals.
