(KSDK Sports) -- While the makeup date of the rain out from Wednesday is August 30th, it might be wise to circle the calendar for July 25th–as that's the next time Yadier Molina and the St. Louis Cardinals face the Chicago Cubs.
Molina was none too happy in the 8th inning when for the second time in the game, he had a pitch buzz up near his face. He turned and voiced his displeasure to the Chicago dugout and umpire Will Little warned both benches. Molina later patted Cubs catcher Wellington Castillo on the chest protector as the at-bat resumed and Yadi then singled to left field.
"That's pretty common–you get one mistake that sails and flies up by your head, I think you're not happy about it," said Manager Mike Matheny. "But when you see a number of them happen that way you start to take it pretty personal. I don't blame him. We're not trying to pitch anybody up and in and like that. And you start talking about the head and nobody else should either. Guys need to stand up for themselves and we need to stand up for them."
Molina is batting .456 (26-57, 2 HR, 17 RBIs) since July 14th of last season against Chicago.
"A guy has three balls up in and by his face–whether they were trying to go in or not, it's just one of those things where you've got to make an adjustment," commented Matt Carpenter. "If it would've happened to anybody, we would've been mad about it. It's not just Yadi or whoever. It's just you try to go in–you go in and the ball runs up by someone's face once, you're upset but three times, it's a diff–it's just one of those things. It happens. You get over it."
Molina was not available afterwards in the clubhouse to discuss what happened.
–The Cardinals have announced the makeup game on August 30th will have a 1:15 start time. Tickets for Wednesday's rain out will be honored for that game.
