Former SLUH grad heading to Sochi

(KSDK Sports) -- He is claimed by Chicago as a hometown kid, but as this tweet below displays, U.S. Speedskating Olympian Patrick Meek, is really a St. Louisan.

Meek, a 2004 St. Louis University High School graduate, earned a spot on the U.S. men's speedskating team and will compete in the men's 5,000 meter race. He earned his spot last week at the Utah Olympic Oval. Skating has a long history for Meek's family. Both his grandfather and father were avid speedskaters. As soon as he could walk at the age of two, he was on skates pushing a bucket. From those humble beginnings, he began a lifelong love for this sport.

Off the ice, Meek received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Utah, and is continuing his post-graduate studies at Ashworth College. He is an active supporter of Right to Play, and works part-time as a concierge at the Waldorf Astoria in Park City, UT as part of the United States Olympic Committee's TeamUSA Careers Program.
