CBC routs DeSmet to bring home another Challenge Cup

DeSmet was battling more than just the powerhouse that is CBC on Monday in the Challenge Cup at Scottrade Center. The Spartans were battling a flu virus that spread to many of the players. CBC, who is hard enough to face when healthy, appeared a step faster and a tad stronger as they dominated play and brought home the Challenge Cup with a 6-0 win over DeSmet.

Not even a minute in, DeSmet fails to clear the puck and Glen Ryan is right in front of the net for the game's first goal. Later in the first period, Michael Beckham with the pretty centering pass to Auston Rueschhoff, who lit the lamp to make it 2-0 Cadets. Just a few minutes later, Benjamin Jones let one fly from the blue line and it found the back of the net.

The second period didn't see any goals until about nine minutes in, Rueschoff walked in all alone and netted his second of the match to make it 4-0 CBC.

Ryan, the CBC captain, got the first goal of the third period with a quick wrister that went off the cross bar and in. Joey Lupo added another and CBC won it 6-0.

This is CBC's 13th Challenge Cup championship.
