Howell's Perkins picked by Nationals

Former Francis Howell Viking, Nic Perkins was drafted by the Nationals last week

Wednesday was a dream come true for Drury's Nic Perkins. The Francis Howell product was picked by the Washington Nationals in the 28th round of the Major League Draft.

While it was obviously a big day for the 6-4, 215 pound catcher, it was also a big day for his family. The Perkins last name is synonymous with the sport of baseball.

Nic's dad, Tony Perkins, has been the coach at Francis Howell for the past 26 years and has brought the Vikings four state championships. Two of them while Nic was on the team.

The Perkins last name has made it's mark at Murray State as well. Nic's brothers, Ryan and Justin, just finished up their freshmen seasons with the Racers. Ryan was named a freshman All-American.

Nic collected numerous awards in his first year at Drury, too. He was named to the second team All-Midwest team, and was named first team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference

He hit .355 with eight homers and 49 runs batted in.
