The Webster Groves girls' soccer team made school history last weekend when they defeated Notre Dame de Sion to win the Class 4 state championship, the first girls' soccer state championship in school history.
The odds were stacked against Webster Groves heading into the match, as de Sion entered as a national ranked team and the heavy favorites to win state.
The odds heightened when a member of the Statesmen was given a read card with 34 minutes left, meaning Webster had to play shorthanded.
None of that mattered to the Statesmen as freshman Izzy Heintz and sophomore Gretchen Skoglund each netted goals to bring home the championship.
Webster Groves finished the season 24-1.
