Michael Sam's shower habits become ESPN fodder

ST. LOUIS - During a segment about Rams training camp on Tuesday's SportsCenter, an ESPN reporter discussed rookie defensive lineman Michael Sam's shower habits. We're not making that up.

After initially talking about the Rams adjusting to a season without starting quarterback Sam Bradford, reporter Josina Anderson and SportsCenter host Jay Crawford segued into Michael Sam's chances of surviving the next round of cuts at training camp.

Anderson quoted teammate Kendall Langford, who said Sam was "just one of the guys" and trying to learn from veteran players. She went on to mention an unidentified teammate, who told her, "Sam is respecting our space."

"From his perspective, he seems to think that Michael Sam is waiting to kind of take a shower, so as not to make his teammates feel uncomfortable," Anderson said.

Langford and linebacker Alec Ogletree told Anderson they weren't tracking Sam's shower habits and didn't speculate why the rookie, the NFL's first openly gay player, was or wasn't showering with teammates.

Shortly after the segment aired on ESPN, Rams defensive end Chris Long posted his displeasure with the network on Twitter.

On Wednesday, ESPN apologized for the segment. Sam and the Rams have not addressed the matter.
