2014 Blues Beard-A-Thon supports local charities

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Put the razor and shaving cream away - it's NHL playoff beard time. The St. Louis Blues are inviting fans to grow out their chin whiskers to support not only the club, but local charities as well.

Participants in the 2014 Blues Beard-A-Thon can invite family, friends, and co-workers to pledge their playoff beards and must maintain them as long as the Blues are still in the playoffs. Those who cannot or do not want to grow a playoff beard can still pledge their favorite Blues player.

The top fundraisers will win a club level suite to a Blues home game next season, game-used and autographed memorabilia, and tickets to future to future Blues games.

The 2014 Blues Beard-A-Thon benefits the Blues 14 Fund and the Joshua Chamberlain Society (JCS). Since 2012, the beard-a-thon has raised more than $50,000 for the JCS, a local organization providing support to veterans who have sustained permanent combat injuries.

The Blues 14 Fund was created in 1998 to honor the memory of former Blues player Doug Wickenheiser, who died of cancer in 1999. The Blues 14 Fund focuses on cancer care and awareness, health and wellness, as well as education and youth hockey development.
