- On Highway 67 between Festus and Crystal City is the hub of two communities.
"We've been in this corner since 1948," said Curt Grass.
At Gordon's Stoplight Drive-In you can get the area's best burger and top it off with the day's hot topic: a local woman going to the Olympics.
"She come [sic] up there and she ran down that track and threw that thing it was just perfect, incredible," Grass said.
Her final throw in the javelin landed her a spot on the Olympic team and lifted a community's pride.
"Someday, we'll be able to say we have a true Olympian that does well in the Olympics; gold medal girl, maybe," said customer Dennis Gannon.
"For Festus to send the best in the United States there it just makes you proud...got goosebumps," Grass said.
London is Brittany's next destination. Here at home, they'll be watching and waiting to see if she can bring home the gold.
