LONDON - A bicyclist was killed when he collided with a double-decker bus Wednesday just outside the entrance of the Olympic Games Main Press Center, snarling traffic near Olympic Park.
Metropolitan Police did not immediately identify the victim, but police said the deceased was a man in his 30s who was struck about 7:42 p.m.
The incident prompted a massive response of police, fire and military personnel near the heavily-secured bus entry to the media center and forced the shutdown of several entry ports.
Authorities shielded the victim's body from public view by encircling it with black mesh fencing until it was moved from the scene. Police said he was pronounced dead at 8:14 p.m.
Police declined to provide information about the bus, its driver or the vehicle's possible affiliation with the Olympic Games transport system.
London Olympic organizers said they were still gathering information about the incident and had no immediate comment.
