Blues player David Backes helping Sochi stray dogs

SOCHI, Russia (KSDK) – St. Louis Blues player David Backes is showing out on and off the ice.

He's emerged as a leader for Team USA in hockey, but Backes has also stepped out and taken a lead in trying find homes for some of the stray dogs here in Sochi.

Backes teamed up with U.S. and Blues teammate Kevin Shattenkirk and wife, Kelly Backes, to help stray dogs in Sochi.

Backes's wife, Kelly, is actually working with players' wives from other teams to get players from multiple countries involved in helping Sochi Strays.

NewsChannel 5 reporter Casey Nolen spoke to David Backes earlier today about how he's trying to take some dogs home with him, so he can show they assimilate well and make good pets.

He's also encouraging others to adopt and even change the way the dogs are viewed here.
