USA has a long list of candidates for flag bearer

SOCHI, Russia — The U.S. Olympic team on Wednesday night will announce its flag bearer for Friday's opening ceremony. A look at the leading contenders:

Bobsledder Chris Fogt served a year of military duty in Iraq and is part of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program. He's also a member of the push crew, led by driver Steven Holcomb, a gold medal favorite.

Nordic combined athlete Todd Lodwick will compete in a record sixth Games.

Ski jumper Lindsey Van was the face of her sport's fight for Olympic inclusion.

Hockey player Julie Chu is a four-time Olympian and eloquent spokesperson for her sport.

Others in the mix: Cross country skier Kikkan Randall, skeleton racer Noelle Pikus-Pace, curler Erika Brown, speedskater Shani Davis, ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White, skier Bode Miller, bobsledder Holcomb, snowboarder Shaun White
