St. Louis (KSDK) - It sort of appears out of nowhere and instantly grabs your attention because although 2011 was a banner year for the St. Louis Cardinals, it's Pat Whittenberg, who has been hanging banners for more than ten years.
"A lot of people stop and say they like it," Whittenberg said.
They don't just stop, they stop and show their appreciation.
"I've had people leave Cardinal tickets in the mailbox, they don't leave me a name so I can't thank them," Whittenberg said.
And it's not just other fans, Mike Matheny has even dropped by.
"He came by Christmas Eve just to say hello," Whittenberg explained.
Even Pujols sent her something special.
"We had the same UPS man. He told Pujols I was ill and I got a get well card from him," Whittenberg said.
She's well enough now that she pulled out Elvis this morning by herself.
"I nearly killed myself my son gave me heck for doing it," she added.
But these days she only gets to about one game a year.
"I watch them all on TV, I never miss a game. If I'm not home I tape them," she said.
After all she is the team's number one fan.
"No, I'm one of them because I'm sure there are a lot of them," Whittenberg said.
It's hard to argue with her, but it appears the writing is hanging on the exterior wall.
