Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - New York Mets starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey
will likely undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, the team said Thursday.
Pelfrey was placed on the disabled list Tuesday after an MRI revealed swelling
in his right (pitching) elbow.
The team said that Pelfrey, 0-0 with a 2.29 earned run average in three starts
this season, would see noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews on Friday.
The 28-year-old has spent his entire seven-year major league career in
Flushing, where he has accrued a 50-54 record with a 4.36 earned run average
in 149 starts.
New York also announced that Chris Schwinden would start Friday's series
opener against Colorado.
