New York, NY (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Reds right fielder Jay Bruce has
won the National League Player of the Week award for the period of April
23-29.
Bruce hit .476 and paced the MLB in slugging percentage at 1.143. He also
tied for first in the NL with four home runs and batted in 10 runs, good for
second in the NL.
The 25-year-old played a key role in the Reds' 4-2 record during the week,
especially their 6-5 win over the Astros on April 29. Bruce's blast in that
contest -- which also set a career-high at four consecutive games with a home
run -- broke a 5-5 tie.
This is Bruce's fourth NL weekly honor.
Brewers pitcher Zack Greinke, Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and Mets
pitcher Johan Santana were among the other players mentioned by MLB as having
noteworthy weeks.
