Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - If Mariano Rivera was noncommittal about
his future after a potentially career-ending injury Thursday, he did not mince
words Friday.
"I'm coming back. Write it down in big letters. I'm not going out like this,"
the all-time major league saves leader told reporters prior to the Yankees'
game against the Royals.
Rivera was carted off the field Thursday after suffering a torn ACL while
shagging fly balls during batting practice. Many -- including Rivera himself
-- questioned whether or not the 42-year-old would ever take the mound again.
Asked Thursday if his career was over, Rivera had replied: "I don't know."
He was far more upbeat Friday. "Thank you fans, friends and family for your
prayers, well wishes and support," the dominant righty posted on his Twitter
account.
"I will be ok. I will be back," he added.
If Rivera returns, he would be continuing an illustrious career that includes
a 76-58 record with a 2.21 earned run average, 608 saves and 1,119 strikeouts
in 18 seasons -- all with New York.
