Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Kansas City Royals activated second
baseman Chris Getz from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday and optioned
infielder Johnny Giavotella to Triple-A Omaha.
Getz hasn't played since leaving a May 21 game against the Yankees after
aggravating a left ribcage injury while sliding headfirst into second base
trying to stretch a single into a double. He was placed on the DL the
following day, then batted .421 with six RBI in five rehab starts in Omaha.
Prior to the setback, he was hitting .277 in 30 games.
Giavotella hit just .217 with three doubles and drove in six runs over 21
games (11 starts) for KC this year.
